A Successful Workshop

On Wednesday, February 21, I held a workshop for several teachers from Kongsberg Municipality, introducing them to roleplaying as a teaching method in school.

Silverheart lets players practice taking someone else's perspective in a historical setting. It is play and learning in perfect harmony!

The workshop ran from 0900 to 1500, and we gathered in historical surroundings at Steinhuset. We started with an introduction of myself, the participants, the goal of the workshop, and the program for the day. Bjørnar Sandvold from the Norwegian Mining Museum also joined for the first part of the day to talk about the time period the game takes place in.

We then went through the physical and digital classroom sets. From there we went through the book chapter by chapter, combined with demonstrations and practical exercises. For example how a game plays out, various dice rolls, and how to create characters.

After lunch we focused on the practical side of running games in both small and large groups. Everyone got the chance to practice setting scenes, creating their own adventure, and running parts of that adventure.

Finally we summed up the day, and five classroom sets were handed out to each school. The participants were very pleased, and several also wanted a follow-up course with a stronger focus on the game master role.

With that, the formal delivery to Kongsberg Municipality was complete, and the project moves into a commercial phase with a launch on February 28.
