Roleplaying in Norwegian, and Farlig Begjær

From October 14 to November 19, 2022, Emil Kaaen organized a digital game creator jam, over itch.io. This framework, and all the incredibly creative contributions, formed the basis of the zine RolleSpillNorges Logistiske Mareritt (RoleplayNorway's Logistical Nightmare)!

THEME: LOGISTICS

The chosen theme for the zine was logistics. How the contributors chose to interpret this was entirely up to them. The same went for what they wanted to make. Tables, one-page games or adventures, full games and adventures, side characters, items, classes, traits and skills, anything at all.

The zine was printed in a run of 50 copies and distributed in March 2023. They sold like hotcakes, and were gone in no time.

MY CONTRIBUTION: FARLIG BEGJÆR

My contribution ended up being Farlig Begjær (Dangerous Desire). A small print-it-yourself game for two people, where you play the Messenger and the Assassin. The Messenger's goal is to deliver a letter to The Chosen One. The Assassin's goal is to kill the Messenger. It becomes a fun game of cat and mouse, finished in about 5 minutes.

Reviews of the game:

"This is a fun amalgam of classic (read: boring) board games like tic-tac-toe and Ludo, sprinkled with adventure and romance. These, and Snakes and Ladders, are thoroughly outcompeted by Farlig Begjær."

"I think I would even have played Farlig Begjær over Yahtzee too. First of all, a round takes less time to play, and secondly, it is sexier to ask for a round of Farlig Begjær. Need I say more?"

"The game was quick, had actual tactical choices, and doesn't seem heavily weighted either way. Volatile dice, but not very, and definitely part of the genre."
