Tailwind for Kvad

Lately, several exciting things have been happening for Kvad. Here are some of the highlights.

Second Printing With an Illustrated Cover

The first printing of the black book from 2021 officially sold out in 2023. Game Forlag therefore chose to print a new second edition, this time in softcover and with Even Mehl Amundsen's fantastic skald illustration on the front.

The book has been picked up by several retailers, including Outland, Midgard Games and Manaheim.

God Morgen Norge

Kvad has been on national breakfast TV! Remo Rehder at brettspillguiden.no brought some of the games he had bought at the Spiel board game fair in Essen and showed them on TV. On the table were games from Norwegian game creators, with Kvad as the only roleplaying game. An honor!

Kvad at Spiel in Essen

Spiel in Essen (Germany) is the world's largest board game fair. You'll find 1000+ exhibitors from around 60+ countries, with 1500+ new game titles and over 50,000 visitors every single day.

Game Forlag attended and set up their own stand to exhibit their products. There was great interest in Kvad, and among others a Ukrainian publisher was interested in translating the Viking game into Ukrainian. Maybe we'll see that in the future?

English Translation 2024

The publisher is currently working flat out on the English translation (I am not the one doing this). The work is nearly finished, and after a few delays they are now planning an English Kickstarter in March 2024. Fingers crossed the date holds, since the market still seems to have a big appetite for new game systems after the OGL fiasco earlier this year. If it is finished in time, it would be fun to join the next trip to Spiel and Germany to market the game there.

Kvad at Manaheim

On October 7, a Kvad event was held at Manaheim in Kongsberg. They are a recently opened specialist store for board games, roleplaying games, miniature games, and card games, working to gather this community in town. A great initiative! The event drew 16 players and 4 skalds who played through the adventure Hevnvisa. After everyone had played through the module, there was a joint closing with a reading of the poem each group had written. A delightfully poetic and bloody affair!

Kongsberg Viking- og Middelalderlag showed up with two sturdy warriors who really lifted the mood, reinforced by Viking music on the speakers. It was a fantastic event, to the delight of both experienced and new roleplayers.

"Det lille Kvadet" as a Free Print-It-Yourself Version

I have made a four-page A5 pamphlet with «det lille Kvadet», a simplified version of the core rules. You can print it on an A4 sheet, fold it, and use it as a starting point for play. I'll include the link here, free to download.

Small Games on Spanish Blogs

I recently discovered that some of Kvad's side tracks have found their way into the Spanish blogosphere. Egil, a small poetry game I wrote in 2019, and another supplement with Viking names that I made as an extension of Kvad, have both been highlighted as positive contributions to the hobby.

It is fun when things happen!
